In February, 2017 Council signed the Aboriginal Partnership Resources Program Agreement with Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) in support of mutual learning in regards to long-term management of used nuclear fuel, including the deep geological repository. Â The funding provided by NWMO will allow education and information about the process to the Aamjiwnaang community. Â As part of the education process there will be information booths, focus groups and Open Houses. Â To date, there has been an information booth at the Home Show and Earth Day. Â Community Members were also taken on a tour of the Bruce Nuclear Plant Dry Storage Area. Â Further events and Open Houses will be scheduled throughout the year. Â Information will be available soon on the First Open House.
Also as part of the information sharing, Greg Plain, Senior Engagement Advisor, Aboriginal Relations, NWMO will be doing six columns. Â The columns will be shared in the Tribe-Une and on the website.
